Botox® injection for dynamic wrinkles and
hyperhidrosis
As we grow older, years of sun exposure
(extrinsic aging), added to aging up of tissues
(intrinsic aging), will wear down the skin. This
leads to the formation of dynamic wrinkles
secondary to muscular contractions during facial
movements such as smiling and frowning.
Weakening the muscles responsible for these
facial expressions can dramatically improve
these wrinkles. With Botox®, these muscles can
be weakened without impacting facial
expressions.
Botox® is a toxin produced by bacteria called
Clostridium Botulinum. Botox® is very safe in
the doses used for cosmetic and therapeutic
purposes. It has been used for decades in the
United States to treat spasmodic dysphonia, eye
twitches, excessive palm or armpit sweating, and
headaches. In the mid 1990's, Botox® injections
were used to treat facial wrinkles.
Botox is a very simple, non surgical 10 minute
procedure that mainly targets wrinkles over face
and neck. Botox® can be injected by your skin
care professional during an office visit. You
may experience brief, mild discomfort as you are
being injected. Following the injection,
recovery is immediate: you may place make-up and
return to work immediately. A few experience
mild bruising which improves within a few days.
You will begin to see improvement in your
wrinkles within a few days, and these results
usually last for 3-4 months.
